Commissioner of Education Rita Hocog Inos is pleased to announce that the PSS still has six Christa McAuliffe Fellowships to award.

Each of these fellowships will be for $2,500 and are available to PSS teachers who meet the minimum criteria. The fellowships are competitive and may be used for professional development.

The priority areas are for research on school improvement using standards development, assessment design, learning technology for classrooms, the development of innovative programs and partnerships between the business community and the schools.

The applications are due on May 22, 2000. The PSS has already awarded four Fellowships to PSS teachers from San Vicente Elementary and Marianas High School.

Applications are available at the PSS Federal Programs Office to all PSS teachers in the CNMI. Copies of the application have also been faxed to all public schools. The Federal Programs Office of the PSS (phone 664-3790) is located on the third floor of the Nauru Building.
