A contingent of Triple J volunteers, led by general manager Jay Jones, trooped Saturday morning toward Beach Road to participate in the Islandwide Cleanup Day sponsored by the Saipan chamber of Commerce and the Department of Environmental Quality.

Marching off in front of the Horiguchi Building in Garapan toward the Quarter Master intersection, the volunteers inched their way on both sidewalks of the road collecting whatever trash they could find.

DEQ staff provided hats, hand gloves and plastic bags to volunteers. Because of the long stretch of road that has to be cleaned up and the amount of trash to be collected, a Triple J truck had to pick up the trash-filled bags at certain points to lessen the loads and enable volunteers to continue collecting for more.

Despite the heat brought about by the mid-day sun, Triple J volunteers reached their destination sweating but smiling because of the good feeling of having taken part in cleaning and beautifying the island.
