17th Annual AG’s Cup on May 5

On Friday, May 5th, the 17th Annual Attorney General;s Cup High School Speech Competition will be held at the Supreme Court on the first floor of the House of Justice.

The Attorney General’s Cup Speech competition is an opportunity for high school students to research a current legal issue, discuss the issue and pertinent sub-issues, and present their ideas on the issues to the audience. It also an opportunity for students to meet the demands of a competition.

This year’s topics is: Whether or not the Constitutional Amendment amending Article XVIII, Section 5 of the Commonwealth Constitution to provide that only persons of Northern Marianas descent can vote on constitutional amendments affecting the protections against alienation of land in Article XII of the Commonwealth

Constitutional is fair to the indigenous or non-indigenous people of the Commonwealth and why.

High School students from local high schools will be representing their respective schools in this important competition. The students will not only be recognized for their skills by public recognition, but the winning students will also receive cash awards. The contest will be judged by local leaders in various fields and attended by Commonwealth dignitaries.
