In a final warning, House Speaker Benigno R. Fitial set a deadline by 2:00 p.m. today for Representative to Washington Juan N. Babauta to vacate his office at the Legislature building after two initial notices went unheeded.

He has instructed the House Sergeant at Arms to make sure that the office will be made available for Rep. Martin Ada at the close of business today.

Mr. Ada is currently sharing an office with Rep. David M. Apatang, which the Speaker said “is inappropriate and unfair.”

Mr. Fitial was forced to send another notice yesterday after Mr. Babauta failed to vacate the office located at the front of the legislative building in Capitol Hill despite two earlier letters.

His office has said that they are awaiting renovation on the CNMI House Speaker’s official residence also in Capitol Hill before they move out of the present location.

“While in the past we have been able to afford you the courtesy of using one of our offices, this is no longer the case,” Mr. Fitial wrote in a letter to the representative.

“I feel that the Legislature has been more than reasonable in allowing you ample time to find a new office space,” he added.

“You are hereby advised to have all of your belongings removed from this office by 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2000. I have instructed the House Sergeant at Arms to ensure that this deadline is met, and to have the office available for Representative Ada by the close of business on the same day,” he said. (BS)
