The Western Association of Schools and Colleges has reaffirmed the six-year accreditation of Koblerville Elementary School after a thorough on-site review conducted by WASC committee members last April 13, 2000.

WASC officials Harvey Buenconsejo and Joanne Nakashima, retired school administrators from the state of Hawaii, validated KES’s midterm progress report listing several areas of strengths.

First, it commended the Parent Teacher Association for its “close working relationship” with the administration and staff.

The report praised the shared decision making and consensus building efforts.

One of the committee members also expressed admiration for the notable “community spirit” among students, teachers, and staff in the school.

Another area of strength was KES’s keen follow-up in its mid-term self study.

The WASC team also commended the school for its involvement in the community by developing the expected schoolwide learning results.

Furthermore, KES was also successful in planning fun activities for its staff, according to committee members.

The accreditation committee also enumerated four areas for the school to focus on during the next three years.

WASC listed the alignment of the expected schoolwide learning results with curriculum and instruction and the PSS standards and benchmarks; the development of a variety of performance assessments, the alignment of technology to curriculum and instruction; and better communication of the financial management system to teachers as some of the areas which need further work.
