More attractions at Flame Tree Arts Festival
The largest and most anticipated annual arts event in the CNMI promises more fun-filled activities this year with over 20,000 projected guests and participants from all over Asia and Micronesia.
The Annual Flame Tree Festival, according to Arts Council Coordinator Cindy Macaranas, will feature family-oriented activities and traditional games which, for the first time, will include canoe rides and races.
Aside from such attractions, the festival will also display a spectacle of ethnically-inspired booths.
The fanfare will also exhibit production performers from Guam, the Marshall Islands, Palau, Yap, Pohnpei, China, Korea, Japan, and the Philippines.
Invitations for the event have already been sent out to foreign guests targeted to grace this year’s festivities.
Continuous support from various agencies such as Marpac, Mobil, GTE Pacifica, and Duty Free Shoppers have helped the organizing committee achieve all preparations which will determine the success of the yearly affair.
The committee yesterday even received an $8,000 check from the Marianas Visitors Authority, by far, the biggest amount of support the arts festival has ever received this year.
This is the second time that MVA has pledged its all-out support for the traditional celebration, according to Ms. Macaranas.
Last year, the tourism office also extended financial assistance to the council to support the festival.
MVA has also been known to offer donations and its services to the arts council in most of its programs throughout the year. (MM)
