A’s win Little League Pennant title

Defending champion San Vicente A’s won their 13th straight without a loss, edging the Toyota Cruisers 4-3 to win the 2000 Little League Pennant Champion.

Esteban Cruz, Jr. pitched 6 strong innings, struck out 13 batters, gave up 3 hits, walked 3 and scored the go ahead run as the Cruisers fail to score in the bottom of the last inning.

Justin Dela Cruz belted a solo shot to the left in the third inning in the A’s victory. Jessie Garcia was also impressive on the mound by limiting the hard hitting A’s to 5 hits. He also contributed with 2 hits and scored a run in the Cruisers defeat. The win for the A’s sends them to the post season playoff games beginning June 10 as the league closes its doors this Sunday, June 4, 2000.

In other games, the Blue Jays completed their regular season by trouncing the Matuis Twins 22-3 in a mercy rule. Greg Arriola had 3 hits and scored 3 times. Franco Flores had 2 hits, scored 3 times and James Kintol with 2 hits and 2 runs scored for the Jays victory and secures second place overall with a record of 12-1. Their only defeat came from the hands of the A’s in the season opener.

In the third game, the Fielders also completed their games by a sweet one defeating the Cardinals 4-2 in a tough one. It was the Fielders third win after 10 losses while the Cards are closing in their regular season games so far without a win.

The fourth and final game of the Memorial Day tournament, the St. Jude Hustlers defeated the Braves by a score of 9-4 as Vincent Sablan, Jr. sends one out to left and finished the day with two hits. Teammates Gayson Keller and Allen Antone both had 2 hits to win the game for the Hustlers. Henry Iguel and Nunu Kapileo both had 2 hits. Kapileo and J.D. Palacios had 2 runs in the losing effort.
