On Philippine Independence Day

At Issue: Our View:

At Issue: The Republic of the Philippines celebrates its 102nd anniversary as an independent island nation.

Our View: We congratulate our friends from the Pearl of the Orient on this festive day in history.

As our brothers and sisters celebrate the 102nd anniversary of independence, our people throughout these isles join us in offering our profound sense of congratulations to each of them on this most auspicious occasion.

The Republic of the Philippines has worked long and hard in the refinement of its economic policies. Last year, investors from economies of scale, including industrial giants like the U.S. and Japan, headed to Manila to take advantage of its positive policies on investments.

The Philippines is also the only country in the world that exports its well trained work force, nearly 10 million of them in the various trades and services. No other country has ably done this except the Republic of the Philippines.

The CNMI benefits tremendously from such services given the lack of warm bodies in the local job market to cover the labor requirement of these isles. In fact, our Pinoy brothers and sisters were and still are an integral part in the phenomenal economic growth of these isles in the mid-eighties.

We give our special salute and Si Yuus Maase` to each of you for your contributions in our sometimes confused efforts to bring about meaningful progress to one and all. You have given us your untiring efforts and dedication in both professional and vocational sectors.
In fact, you are role models in the daily demonstrations of professionalism at work to which we hope our people learn as they work by your side to hone their own skills.

We feel for you, the good and bad moments, where you take unparalleled sacrifices in overseas work to ensure that your siblings attain lifetime skills and better livelihood ahead. Indeed, we can’t quite understand nor appreciate such sacrifices in that islanders on this side of the Pacific mostly leave the islands for educational purposes.

March on with your heads high as you and fellow kababayans celebrate this historic day in the history of your country. Bien selebrasion, congratulations and our Si Yuus Maase` for all your contributions in these isles over the last four decades. Congratulations!
