Art photography enthusiasts have one more place to frequent with the opening of the Reso’cha photo gallery last Friday, an exhibit of fine photos accentuating the beauty of the islands.

Reso’cha, a term coined after the English word “resort,” is a new Japanese word which alludes to a “delightful time spent in resorts.”

The art exhibit at La Fiesta II is in commemoration of Japan Airline’s inauguration of the New Reso’cha campaign from April and also the introduction of JALways, a subsidiary airline of JAL.

JALways is expected to cover regular service to Saipan from Japan starting October 1, 2000.
Photos now on display at the gallery are taken from JAL’s wide collection of pictures under it’s subsidiary, the JAL Cultural Developmental Company.

“We have a big library of these beautiful pictures,” said La Fiesta general manager Toshiro Arai.

Also on display are masterpieces of famous Japanese photographer Junji Takasago and some other beautiful sceneries shot in the CNMI.
The photo showcase is being hosted by JALways, JAL Hotels Co. Ltd., and Hotel Nikko Saipan, Inc. and supported by the Marianas Visitors Authority.

Last April 1, JAL introduced its New Reso’cha campaign, a drive to further promote travel from Japan to the Asia-Pacific region, which also launched the special “Saipan Photo Contest.”

The competition is open to all, according to Mr. Arai. It is admissible to professional and amateur photographers, no restriction on age, sex, or nationality.

Hotel Nikko Saipan president Motonori Takahashi and Mr. Arai are encouraging local participation in the contest.
Winning photos will be published in “Winds,” JAL’s inflight magazine.

Photos submitted must be of sights and events in the Northern Marianas.

All photographs entered should be taken from May 1 to October 21, 2000.

Participants can submit up to 10 entries. If several photos are submitted dealing with one topic, as a set (such as panoramic view, etc.) the maximum number in the set should be five.

Judges will include professional cameraman Junji Takasago, actor/singer Masatoshi Nakamura, and actress Junko Igarashi.

Prizes include Japan-Saipan or Saipan-Japan roundtrip air tickets, accommodation at the Hotel Nikko Saipan or Hotel Nikko Tokyo, and a Fuji film camera. (MM)
