Summer Camp 2000
Close to a hundred scouts are camped at American Memorial Park for the ongoing Summer Camp 2000 participated by youths from Saipan, Tinian, and Guam.
The week-long camp headed by Camp Director Kalistro Reyes began last Sunday offering a long line of outdoor activities for boys and cub scouts.
Boy scout troops from Guam, Garapan, and Koblerville are taking part in a series of activities which could earn them merit badges in swimming, nature lore, fishing, and basketry.
The scouts are also set to acquire skills in knot-tying, first aid, camping and hiking.
Cub scout packs from Tinian and the William S. Reyes Elementary school will also be exposed to classes in aqua knot, sports, and kayaking.
Representatives from the Department of Public Safety Enforcement unit will be join the campers on Friday afternoon when the classes are expected to be completed.
Summer Camp 2000 will be designating a Fun Day this Saturday during which competitions will be held between units and troops.
Contests will include treasure hunts, obstacle course, and a game called “grease pig.”
Camp fires are held every other night at the summer camp. During Friday’s camp fire, campers will be inviting local officials and parents to join their special gathering.
A recognition ceremony for outstanding scouts will also be held the night before summer camp concludes. The program begins at 6:00 p.m. at the camp site. (MM)
