Saipan to host PIBBA conference next week

The Pacific Island Bilingual Bicultural Association will hold its 19th Annual PIBBA Conference on Saipan on June 27-30, 2000 with over 140 participants expected to attend the meeting.

The Pacific Island Bilingual Bicultural Association will hold its 19th Annual PIBBA Conference on Saipan on June 27-30, 2000 with over 140 participants expected to attend the meeting.

Aside from the regular concurrent sessions and general assembly, there will be a table set up for cultural handicraft display and sale during the conference.

All exhibitors will be assessed a fee of $25.00 flat rate for the duration of the meeting.

The kick-off night will be highlighted with a color guard parade from MHS JROTC. Gus Kaipat will sing the National and CNMI Anthems.
Dinner for the night will be hosted by the Office of the Governor and the 12th Commonwealth Legislature at the Dai-Ichi Hotel. Entertainment will be provided by the PIBBA members and the MC Barrio Bwiibwiis Band.

On the second day, registration will begin from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Garapan Elementary School with morning continental breakfast provided by the Para Hita/Ghiisch Group. General assembly begins at 8:30 a.m. and the keynote speaker will be Gov. Rensley A. Sigrah.

Koblerville Elementary School students will provide the entertainment. Concurrent sessions begin at 9:30 a.m. and at 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., after which a dinner will be held at 6:30 at Minachom Atdao sponsored by Mayor George A. Sablan. Entertainment for this evening will be from Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae representatives.

On June 29th, registration will continue. Continental breakfast will be provided compliments of PIBBA CNMI Chapter. Students from Rota and Oleai Elementary School will perform. A panel discussion afterwards to be facilitated by Dr. Marilyn Salas.

Dinner will be at Minachom Atdao again at 6:30 p.m. hosted by Oleai Elementary School. The entertainment will be provided by representatives of the Republic of Palau and the Republic of Marshall Islands.

On the last day of the conference, PIBBA CNMI Chapter will host a breakfast. Keynote speakers for the morning assembly will be Juan Pangelinan and Antonia Seman. Entertainment will be provided by William S. Reyes Elementary School students.

The PIBBA International general membership meeting will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. The network meeting by bilingual directors and CNMI Language Commission is from 2:00-3:00 p.m. The reception is at 6:30 p.m. at the Carolinian Affairs Utt Pavilion, hosted by PIBBA CNMI.

Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio will be signing a proclamation designating June 25th to July lst, 2000 as the Pacific Island Bilingual Bicultural Week.
