Four CNMI students and a teacher from the Public School System traveled to Okinawa, Japan Thursday to take part in the Okinawa Student Exchange Program annually sponsored by the Micronesia Repatriation Association of Okinawa.

Just recently, over 300 of the MRA’s membership visited Saipan, Tinian, and Rota, to conduct their 31st Annual Memorial Service.

The Association has for the past 12 years sponsored this program in an ongoing effort to promote goodwill between the people of the CNMI and repatriated Okinawans. The CNMI delegates will be in Okinawa until June 27th.
During their stay, they will be visiting historical sites and a courtesy call to Okinawa’s governor.

This year’s candidates were Joaquina Salas, Jemalyn Tenorio both from Marianas High School, Verna Borja of Tinian High School, and Tamara Manglona of Rota High School. The students were escorted by Isabel Montague, principal of Tinian High School.

In a luncheon meeting recently at the Hafadai Beach Hotel’s Hana Restaurant, Mr. Chinen, of Ice Keki Store and a supporter of the program for the past two years, told Education Commissioner Rita H. Inos that he will continue to sponsor the program as part of his commitment to promote goodwill, as well as his appreciation to the CNMI youth’s support to the store.
