Saipan All-Stars off to Far-East Little League

Saipan Little League All-Stars advance to the 2000 Far-East Regional Baseball Tournament after defending their district title for the fourth straight year defeating the Rota All-Stars 30-1 in a ten-run mercy rule.

Saipan Little League All-Stars advance to the 2000 Far-East Regional Baseball Tournament after defending their district title for the fourth straight year defeating the Rota All-Stars 30-1 in a ten-run mercy rule.

Paul Perry Santos gave up two hits, struck out 8, walk a batter, went four for five at the plate, hitting the cycle homerun, triple, double and single, and knocked in four runs.
Esteban Cruz knocked in also four runs. Franco Flores scored 4 times, while Johnathan Sablan and Tomas Borja contributed 3 runs for the team Saipan’s’ victory.

All in all team Saipan made a record this year, scoring 103 runs in the three-day tourney. Team Rota scored their lone run in the fourth inning coming from Antonio Campos who had 2 hits in the championship game last Sunday.

Team Saipan will represent the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in the Far-East Regional Tournament in Guam from July 26 through Aug. 1.

Tinian All-Stars placed third in the fourth annual tournament.

So far defending World Series champions Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Philippines, Palau, and Guam will be battling out in this prestigious level of competition and the winner will advance to the 2000 Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania on Aug. 20 through Aug. 26.
