Students return from exchange program
Four students from high schools across the Northern Marianas recently came back from Japan after having represented the CNMI in the 12th Okinawan Student Exchange Program.
Marianas High School students Joaquina Salas and Jemalyn Tenorio with fellow youths Verna Borja of Tinian High School and Tamara Manglona of Rota High School played roles as ambassadors of the CNMI under the tour program.
They expressed excitement over the tremendous hospitality the repatriated Okinawans offered them during their short stay at Okinawa.
Tinian High School Principal Isabel Montague who accompanied to the students, described the trip as a true learning experience.
“I am very thankful for the opportunity to be part of the visit and especially in leading the students in promoting goodwill between the people of the CNMI and Okinawa,” said Ms. Montague.
The students said they acquired valuable knowledge through the experience.
“We would like to thank the chairman of Ginoza and the Micronesian Repatriation Association of Okinawa for giving us an opportunity to be a part of this year’s good will tour,” said the students.
The delegates also acknowledged Jun Sumitomo, general manager of Saipan Botanical Garden, and Mr. Chinen of the Ice Candy Store, strong supporters of the program for the last two years, as well as Ryuichi Kameyama, president of Pacific Development Inc. (MM)
