Discordant notes from the GOP
The “Blame Game Season” has begun. Supporters of both GOP gubernatorial tandems have started blaming the Democrats for all their (GOP’s) misgivings. The irony of it all is that they are in power and still have a year to go. What delusional and humiliating assertion! Or am I hearing some strange vibes from the campaign trail?

Was it the late President Lincoln who said “You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all the people all of the time?” Seems most apropos in terms of what supporters of GOP gubernatorial tandems have seen fit to unleash against, guess who, the Republicans! It’s an obvious case of right hand not knowing what the other is doing. Woe!

I know that deep in their conscience, GOP gubernatorial prospects are fully wary of how royally the GOP has failed to aid the business community and destitute people at the village level see better days. Thus, the nervous stance on, well, regurgitated tired old refrain.
The constant display of arrogance of policy makers was fueled with measures purposely designed to further cripple the business and local communities. Grassroots verdict will be delivered in time to the “royal political court” come November 2001.
It’s the calm before the storm and the road ahead looks all uphill and a bit too steep for any GOP standard bearer to tread. It’s something that needs a helluva of explaining when the GOP is met one-on-one at the campaign trail. It should prove to be an interesting political slug fest.

If you just found out that you have a plan to turn the local economy around, woe, partner, perhaps it’s just as good that you join the Senate as it sings its new chamber music, “Are you Sleeping”. Eh, it could turn out to be the perfect melodious snooze after a heavy meal!
Remember when we used to sing this song in grammar school? One row would begin, followed by the second, third and fourth rows? Only this time the lyrics is amended by resolution as the nine senators intone “Are you Sleepy, are you Goofy, are you Gooky….”
Now, if you have done nothing at the nation’s capital but sleep with the CNMI’s enemies, do you really expect the people (whose future your have allegedly bartered for some lowly legislation) to vote for you?
Character and integrity come into play and let’s see how you guys score on a scale of one through ten.

This isn’t to say that the Democrats don’t have problems of their own. But they’d be dealing with a lesser case of fractiousness.
It now carefully watches the GOP’s colorful though divisive political pyrotechnics as the contest heats up heading down its primary.
No matter the eventual GOP slogan, it’ll remain a tough sale when dealing with the multitude. Such niceties as “Proven Leadership” or “Time for a Change” have landed the exact opposite results. If you have any doubts, take a survey of new converts in Precinct I who are still jobless since three years ago. Well, in some strange trail I thought I heard Democrats reciting the same slogan, smiling “Time for a Change”. Or is this just a figment of my imagination? A` Saina!

The grassroots level is teeming with restlessness, born by forced joblessness and helplessness, which obviously begins with arrogance and complacency on the part of those now in power.
Political change, especially ones that emanate from grassroots sentiment, is the hardest to derail or stop. This has been proven in Indonesia in recent years. And we have a lot to talk about of the similarities of what has happened there that replicates grassroots sentiment here. Di ba?
