Recreation center planned for Kagman
The Public School System is coming out with a plan to provide the Kagman community a recreational facility complete with sports amenities that will all residents of the area.
Originally intended for the use of students enrolled in Kagman Elementary School, which is set to open in August, the school system is looking at building a playground facility adjacent the new campus and the new Kagman community center.
According to Board of Education Vice Chair Roman Benavente, the facility will also be open for the public’s use.
He added this venture is PSS’ way of curbing crimes and delinquencies in the community especially among youths.
“It will help keep the young people busy and productive. So they will engage in healthy recreational activities. We see that this will have a positive effect on the community,” said the BOE official.
The school system is currently devising concrete plans that would detail the exact use of the proposed complex.
“We are still determining whether to put up a parking lot, a baseball field, and other recreational facilities,” said Mr. Benavente.
PSS is also in the process of formulating official terms and conditions on anticipated liabilities which may come up should cases of accidents happen at the playground during off-school hours, Mr. Benavente added.
The Department of Lands and Natural Resources and the National Parks and Recreation has pledged to assist the school system on the maintenance and beautification of the proposed facilities.
“We are even requesting if the DLNR and the Parks and Recreation can provide the compound with trees and plants to create a park type of setting so that individuals and families, not just students, can enjoy picnics and outdoor gatherings while watching ball games,” he said.
He added that the targeted location of the playground is quite ideal especially with the proposed Kagman Junior and High School to be erected nearby.
The recreation facility is set to include a basketball court, a volleyball court, and possibly a baseball field.
Some playground equipment for small grade schoolers such as slides and swings are also being considered for the complex. (MM)
