The Saipan & Northern Islands Soil and Water Conservation District is hosting the 14th Annual Conference of the Pacific Basin Association of Conservation District (PBACD) on Aug. 2-4, 2000 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Saipan.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Collaborative Approaches to Meet Island Environmental Challenges in the New Millennium.”

The PBACD meet annually to discuss natural resource issues affecting the Pacific Islands. They work together with numerous local government and federal agencies as well as other agencies who have mutual concerns for resource problems.

This three-day conference involves speakers from on-island and off-island who will be discussing resource issues such as Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB), Military Dump Sites, Upland Mitigation Bank, and Alternative Waste Water Treatment Systems.

The PBACD develops and adopts resolutions concerning natural resource issues. Adopted resolutions are conveyed to local and federal agencies for specific actions.

The conference is open to all interested individuals and resource agency representatives. Registration forms may be picked up at the Saipan & Northern Islands SWCD office at the Horizon Building in Garapan or participants may register at 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 2, the first day of the conference.

For more information contact the Saipan & Northern Islands Soil and Water Conservation District at 233-0650 or 233-3415.
