The Division of Youth Services launched yesterday its island-wide Sports Camp at the Gilbert Ada Gymnasium, a summer-long activity meant to keep minors off the streets and into sports.

DYS and the Division of Sports and Recreation have drawn over 90 participants to register whose ages range from seven to 14 years old, according to DYS Sports and Recreation Coordinator Elias Rangamar.

Yesterday some 47 youths participated in the basketball and tee-ball sessions from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Clinics on volleyball, table tennis, tennis, soccer, hiking, and canoeing will be featured within the next weeks until July 29, 2000.

The summer program is one of DYS’ prevention measures in ensuring that kids are exposed only to positive activities during the break. (MM)
