Continental dumps waste water in residential area
Finasisu residents have expressed concern about the dumping of wastewater by Continental Micronesia in a manhole located within the residential area.
An airline employee driving the truck emblazoned with Continental Micronesia logo has been seen dumping wastewater every afternoon for the past months. Some of the residents are worried about the overflow in the manhole since their children play in the area.
“I don’t think it is right to dump their waste there. Why can’t they find another place to throw their waste,” asked Jon Fujinaka, one of the residents.
Commonwealth Utilities Corp. Spokesperson Pamela Mathis said there is nothing illegal in the dumping of wastewater by Continental because the utilities company allowed them to look for a site near the airport since the sites earlier identified Sadog Tasi and Agingan –– are quite far from the airport.
However, CUC is looking into the alleged overflow caused by the dumping apparently due to the failure by Continental staff to use a hose when dumping its waste.
A $5 million sewerline project by the Commonwealth Ports Authority which will run from Saipan International Airport to Agingan Waste Water Treatment Plant is still under construction.
