The House of Representatives yesterday lauded four Filipino contract workers here for saving the life of a drowning victim despite the hazards facing them.

Rogelio Deducin, Ariel Narvaez, Celerino Calayag and Manolito Sityar were honored in a resolution offered by Rep. David M. Apatang who acknowledged their heroic efforts in rescuing victim Jose R. Camacho, Jr.

The drowning incident occurred last July 8 on Marine Beach in Kagman where Mr. Camacho was swept away to the reef by strong currents while swimming in the area.

His brother sought the help of the four who were in a picnic pavilion at that time. Without any personal consideration for their safety, they went to the aid of the victim, according to the resolution.

“[W]ith their quick thinking, two proceeded to swim [towards] the victim and tied him with a rope while the other two pulled them into shore,” it added.

Copies of the resolution will be provided to Philippine Consul Julia Heidemann and to the four new heroes.
