Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio yesterday signed a proclamation declaring the week of July 24th as the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Week.

In a simple ceremony at the Governor’s Office, the governor called on the community to join and help support the Relay for Life event.

The activity, spearheaded by the American Red Cross, honors those who have survived cancer, provides hope and encouragement to those who are still battling against the disease, and remembers those who succumbed to cancer.

Funds raised from this year’s Relay for Life will be used to fund cancer prevention programs and patient service and increase resources and technical assistance for local health facilities.

The Relay for Life will be held on July 28, 2000 at Hopwood Jr. High Track and Field Complex. (Melina P. Rasa)
