Governmental agencies are busy planning for Labor Day 2000. The Labor Day picnic is traditionally celebrated by all government agencies on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota with each island preparing their own celebration.

The Saipan Labor Day picnic will be celebrated on Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000 at the American Memorial Park from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Tinian and Rota Labor Day picnic will be on Friday, Sept. 1 and Saturday, Sept. 2, respectively.

“The committees and agency representatives are communicating with each other, organizing and solidifying their ideas, and most importantly, are planning in advance. We are doing our best to finalize our plans this week so we can truly enjoy Labor Day with our families by taking part in the games and listening and dancing to entertainment,” said John Oliver Gonzales, chair of the Labor Day Steering Committee.

The committees of entertainment, site and logistics, sports and games and program and publicity are on the go with their designs.
Every government employee is informed of the activities and plans for Labor Day by their agency representatives at bimonthly meetings.

However, the Executive Committee would like to remind all employees of all departments that the deadline for ordering Labor Day 2000 t-shirts and caps are fast approaching. Also, the deadline to submit forms for the softball and volleyball tournaments is on Friday, Aug. 11. Sign up sheets and insurance waiver forms have been distributed to all government agencies and must be completed and submitted no later that the stated deadline.

“We would like to stir up the spirit of Labor Day and get everyone involved in all the fun, so talk to your agency representative on how you can be part of Labor Day 2000,” said Mr. Gonzales.
