FBI steps into murder probe
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has stepped into the Monday murder incident in Chalan Piao to assist local authorities in hunting down the killers of Hong Kong Chinese Kim Fai Tse, according to Maj. R.B. Camacho, assistant chief of police operations.
FBI has joined the investigation following reports linking the dreaded Hong Kong Triad to the slaying of Mr. Tse at BBQ Restaurant in the early morning of Aug. 7.
The Department of Public Safety has expressed concern on information about the reported increase of international crimes committed in the Commonwealth.
While DPS has yet to establish the motive behind the killing and the possible involvement of the Triad, police organizations from Asian countries have alerted the Northern Marianas about the expanding operation of international crime syndicates.
So far no suspects have been arrested nor invited for questioning.
Mr. Tse was gunned down by unidentified assailants wearing ski mask in full view of customers. His woman companion was seriously wounded in the shooting and is still recuperating at the Commonwealth Health Center.
Mr. Tse had worked as assistant manager for Pacific Century International Inc., which operates a retail store, a beauty parlor and a coffee shop. DPS sources said the agency has sought the help of the Hong Kong Interpol to help them gather information regarding the background of Mr. Tse.
Police have been looking into the international operation of organized crime syndicates since the attempted kidnapping on the 13-year-old son of businessman James Lin at Saipan Community School.
DPS has also been alerted by the Philippine National Police regarding the activities of international crime groups in connection with the kidnapping of a Saipan-based Japanese businessman in Manila. The suspects in the kidnapping have been arrested and charged in a Philippine court.
