Garment industry lauds its workers
As the CNMI observes Labor Day weekend, the Saipan Garment Manufacturers Association (SGMA) said the thousands of employees within the Commonwealth’s garment industry, including over 2,000 local employees, deserve recognition and commendation.
“We hope everyone appreciates the contributions being made by the hard-working and dedicated employees of this vital industry,” says SGMA’s acting chair Richard A. Pierce. He continued by noting that the garment workforce is sometimes taken for granted by the community, which benefits from its productivity in terms of huge economic contributions to the island.
SGMA represents 30 of the islands’ 33 garment factories. Garment manufacturing is a driving economic force in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
“As we celebrate this Labor Day, we should remember to support and appreciate the efforts of these workers, and if you’re looking for an example of the dignity of labor, you don’t have to look any further than any one of our SGMA member factories,” the association said in a press release.
