The freedom to choose

Liberal Democrats are all for abortion. They believe in a woman’s sacred right to choose. They believe women are free to choose. In the case of abortion, they believe that a woman owns her body and should therefore have every right to do what she wishes with her own body.

When it comes to physician assisted suicide, most liberal Democrats also favor the individual’s right to choose. Unlike most traditional religious conservatives, the liberal Democrat is more likely to respect an individual’s right to choose life or death.

When it comes to school vouchers, however, the liberal Democrats have no intention of ever allowing the individual the freedom to choose. In this case, the liberal wants to severely limit choice and confine individuals to the state’s education monopoly.

Whenever it comes down to economic choice, the liberal Democrat almost never favors the individual’s right to self-determination or freedom of choice. On the contrary, they want to impose centralized decisions upon the individual, depriving him of any sense of individual responsibility and self-determination.

The liberal Democrat’s contempt for individual economic choice and self-determination is most apparent in the area of taxation. Liberal Democrats are almost uniformly opposed to tax cuts. They don’t want to let individuals make their own decisions concerning their own money. They don’t want to privatize Social Security. They don’t want to repeal the death tax. Liberal Democrats seek to confiscate private property and allocate resources as they see fit, regardless of individual choice.

Conservative Republicans, by sharp contrast, favor economic choice. They favor the individual’s right to economic self-determination. They favor tax cuts. They favor such policies as Social Security privatization and school vouchers.

Conservative Republicans, however, do not favor social choice. Although they generally respect private property rights and the freedom of individual economic choice and self determination, when it comes to social issues, conservative Republicans are against choice. They are against maximum individual autonomy. They want to employ censorship and determine what is good for America and “working families.”

Republicans want to ban abortion. They want to ban gay marriage. They want to promote “family values” and restrict pornography. They want to crack down on gambling and keep prostitution illegal. They want to dictate morality to the individual.

Both liberal Democrats and conservative Republicans alike are incredibly inconsistent on the matter of individual choice. They favor it some areas and discourage it in others.

Only the Libertarian Party remains logically coherent and consistent. For they favor maximum individual choice–maximum individual liberty–in all areas.
