Ichihara places first in Ironman bodybuilding
After moving from Saipan to Los Angeles last year to pursue competitive bodybuilding, Josephine Ichihara took first place in the Ironman magazine bodybuilding championships.
On Aug. 12, 2000, Ichihara took first place in the women’s novice division and then went on to capture the overall novice title in her first Southern California bodybuilding competition.
When asked how she felt about her victory, Ichihara said she was surprised to take first place in Southern California, generally regarded as the world’s “mecca” for the highly competitive fitness industry. Competitors from all over the world move to California to train in one of the most intensely competitive areas of the bodybuilding world.
Her daily training regime consists of five to six hours of power yoga, kickboxing, abdominals, and twice daily weight lifting.
Ironman magazine, one of bodybuilding’s premier magazines, will be showcasing the contest in one of their upcoming issues.
Ichihara plans to keep training and competing for the next several years, as well as return to Saipan to see her family and encourage others to pursue the exciting sport of bodybuilding.
She is the daughter of Jose and Rosa Ichihara.
