UMW rummage for layettes
The United Methodist Women (UMW) of Immanuel United Methodist Church of Saipan continues to provide layettes for new born babies at the Commonwealth Health Center. Layettes are starter kits for qualified mothers as determined by the CHC social workers. Without much fanfare, the UMW has for a number of years been replenishing CHC’s supply as they are needed.
The UMW will hold a rummage sale this Saturday, September 30, from 7:00 am to the Noon hour at Kilili Park by the Sabalu Market to raise funds for the Layette for Mothers program as well as other women’s programs of the group.
The UMW has been the organizing sponsor of the Women’s Forum of Saipan which scheduled women’s meetings earlier during the year. They also figured prominently in the establishment of the Oleai House of the Marianas Resource Center which assists and responds to the needs of women in distress.
Also on Saturday, Losana Rogoyawa, an UMW member and a midwife at CHC, will represent the organization at their district meeting in Honolulu. Losana will report to the gathering of women from Hawaii and the Marianas the activities and programs of the UMW in Saipan. Included will be the organization’s current plans to assist Immanuel United Methodist Church to establish an Early Learning Center at their projected Kapilla Kobler at Koblerville.
