Have the Olympics got your competitive juices flowing? Then you might want to take part in some beach volleyball this weekend.

Coca-Cola and the Hyatt Regency Saipan are teaming up for the Club Elan Beach Volleyball Tournament. The event takes place this weekend Saturday, September 30th and Sunday, October 1st at the Hyatt Regency Saipan beachside.

“Saipan is overdue for a competitive two-man tournament,” said event organizer Neil Mackay. “So we’re very pleased to be a part of this.”

Mackay said the intention is to make the event a bit more accessible than some athletic contests. “That’s why we’ve made it a two-day tournament with the second day a co-ed style event with the emphasis on having fun,” he explained.

He said watching the action might be as much fun as participating. “If you’ve never watched these types of tournaments on Saipan before you’ll probably be surprised at how exciting and fun it is.”

Each tournament participant will receive a BBQ lunch, T-shirt, four-drink tickets (to choose from Coke, Diet Coke or Powerade), towel usage, weekend passes to Club Elan, and free entry to Gilligan’s on Saturday night.

The cost is $35 per player for the two-day tournament, or $20 if a player is participating in only one day of competition. Spectators are welcome free of charge.

The first game will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Pre-registration is available at Club Elan, located in the Hyatt Regency Saipan. For details call 234-1234 extension 27.
