It has always been Ron DelRosario’s dream to establish a band and play with some of his brothers, something which he also promised his father. Nine months ago, TROPICSETTE (New Generation) was born and has been performing in various political functions and social gatherings on the island. It was a dream come true for Ron, who now plays with his younger brother Tony Manahane (drums) and his only son John (Rhythm/vocals) as well.

Ron’s niece, Erlyn is the main vocalist. Chris Kaipat, who has been performing professionally for the past 25 years, decided to join the band two months ago. Other members of the band are Ronnie (guitarist) and Felipe (keyboard).

“We all have one thing in common — our love for music. We have our regular jobs as our main source of income and we do this because we want to entertain people with our kind of music,” says Ron.

For someone who has been in the music scene on the island for many years now, Chris says he will never forget how he started learning how to play the different musical instruments as a young boy without even thinking that he will be playing professionally. When he does not have any scheduled performance, Chris works as clerk of court at the Supreme Court.

“I will perhaps be playing music as long as I can. When I hear the drums or the guitar, I don’t think of the money anymore,” Ron says.

Tropicsette will be joining the Battle of the Bands in Rota on Oct. 7.
