DEQ seeks projects on watershed protection
The Division of Environmental Quality is requesting information from the public on potential projects that may educate and increase public awareness of the impacted watershed in Garapan, particularly Garapan Drainage No. 1.
Information should be no longer than three pages, and should include an estimated budget and project time frame. This educational outreach is a challenge to this multi-cultural community, and relaying the importance of watershed health will be a formidable task. Priorities will be given to projects that are designed to engage the general public in discussion and dialogue with the business and residential community as well as its leaders who live and work within that watershed. Projects may include, but are not limited to:
• Drainage Revegetation
• Sidewalk Trash Bins
• Nature Trail
• Tourist Environmental Video
Eligible applicants include private, profit and non-profit organizations, students, community groups, individuals, and government jurisdictions to conduct projects that demonstrate best management practices (BMPS) in reduction and control of Nonpoint Source Pollution.
Applicants should submit draft proposals by Dec. 1, 2000. Grants may range from $2,000 to $10,000.
All information must be in written form and received by the CNMI Division of Environmental Quality.
The information may be hand delivered or sent to the Saipan office via facsimile (664-8540), or sent via mail (P.O. Box 501304, Saipan, MP 96950). The submittal must be marked clearly with the words “Nonpoint Source Pollution Information – Know Your Watershed Project.”
