Over 65 swimmers participated in the training sessions for the All Schools Swimming Championships on Saturday at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool.

Almost half were mot members of the Saipan Swim Club, four were from Tinian Elementary School, who for the first time took part in a swimming competition. They were Seth Manglona, Corey San Nicholas, Mark Lero, and Ritalene Lizama.

Also, those swimmer who competed for the Saipan Swim Club either swam their time or were close to their personal best, a good indication for the beginning of the swimming season.

Alex Negrete, Michael and Juan Camacho, Bobby Cruz, Daniel Kim, Katie Nicholls, Brenda Atalig, Melissa Coleman, and Nicole Calvo each lowered their previous best times.

Minerva Cabrera, Andi Negrete and Michelle Cruz turned in great performance, dropping many seconds off of last year’s record, and showed that they are ready for the 2000-2001 swimming competition.

A brief clinic on relay swimming was conducted after the meet for all participants. This was a good tune-up for the upcoming All Schools Swim meet to be held on Nov. 11 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Kan Pacific.

There will also be a short water polo match at the end of the swimming competition.
