The First Hawaiian Bank – Gualo Rai Branch displayed its commitment to help improve the quality of postsecondary education in the CNMI by making a $1,000.00 donation to Northern Marianas College (NMC) last week.

By doing so, First Hawaiian Bank has joined the ranks of concerned private businesses which have chosen to show their community support by contributing valuable financial assistance to NMC, while earning an Education Tax Credit under Public Law 10-73.

First Hawaiian Bank is a subsidiary of BancWest Corporation, a bank holding company with total assets of $16.7 billion whose principal subsidiaries are two full-service community banks, Bank of the West and First Hawaiian Bank. Bank of the West operates 162 branches located in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Nevada. First Hawaiian Bank has 56 branches throughout Hawaii, two in Guam and one in Saipan; an offshore branch in Grand Cayman, British West Indies; and a representative office in Tokyo, Japan.

In 1997, the CNMI Legislature enacted P.L. 10-73 to provide incentives to private individuals and business entities to contribute to Northern Marianas College and other qualified educational institutions in the Commonwealth.

NMC welcomes individuals and businesses to take advantage of this law and help contribute to the quality improvement of our educational system and the continued enhancement of our local human resources and overall economic development of our islands.
