Guam elects first woman public auditor
(PINA Nius Online) – Doris Flores Brooks has been elected Guam’s first ever public auditor. From the start of the race, she was way ahead of the competition, News 8 KUAM TV reported.
Brooks beat out four other candidates in the general election. Already she is planning to work for the people as well as work with the elected officials.
“I plan to meet with elected officials on what to look into, from senators, the Governor, department heads, and work cooperatively with them,” Brooks was quoted by News 8 as saying.
Brooks said the major purpose of an audit is to hold the government accountable with taxpayers money. The elected Public Auditor believes there is a lack of trust. Brooks is planning on looking into the questionable 1999 government-wide audit that has yet to be completed.
Other government finances that Brooks is prepared to investigate are the Department of Administration’s Oracle system as well as the Guam Power Authority’s accounts receivable, News 8 KUAM TV said.
In other results reported by News 8 KUAM TV: Robert Underwood remains Guam’s delegate to the United States Congress in Washington. Underwood (29,099 votes) beat Manny Cruz (8167).
