Suva (FM96/PINA Nius Online) – A lawyer for George Speight is believed to have slipped into New Zealand on a taxpayer funded aid program, making a mockery of the country’s sanctions against Fiji.
New Zealand Foreign Affairs Minister Phil Goff was quoted in the New Zealand Herald that the man should not have been issued a three-month visa when he arrived for a serious surgery but not an emergency. The man is allegedly black listed in New Zealand as part of New Zealand’s so-called smart sanctions following the May 19 coup.
His presence in New Zealand has infuriated Fiji democracy campaigners in Auckland.
