Don’t mix drinking and driving
The Issue: The beginning of the holiday season started last Thursday, Thanksgiving Day.
Our View: Friends, amidst the festive air of the season, please don’t mix drinking and driving!
Last Thursday was the unofficial start of the holiday season. There were office parties and parties for parties, bringing employees, friends and families together.
The festive mood would carry through until the first day of January 2001. More office and company parties would fill schedules before December 25th.
If your company or office plans to hold a party, make it a point to arrange with family members for a designated driver or DD. Usually, after we’ve had one drink too many–champagne, beer, wine and liquor–we brave the wheels under prohibitive mental and physical conditions. This is dangerous and could be fatal too!
Our judgment is retarded by alcohol, reckless in heavy traffic, endangering the lives of others on public roads. Most would make it home safely, but there would be others who won’t be quite so fortunate. They either get into serious or fatal accidents or must deal with DUI. You don’t want to be in any of these categories during the Holiday Season. You would want to be home with your family at a time of year when families get together.
The Department of Public Safety has come out in advance with a new sign that says you’re the loser if you mix drinking and driving. Police officers are also willing to help you get home if you’ve had one too many drinks at a party or bar. If you’re not sure, you should call up DPS for assistance. They too prefer that you get home safely than pull you out of a freaky accident to have you transferred to CHC on an ambulance.
In short, plan your partying in advance so you exercise safety not only for yourself, but for others too. Happy Holidays!
