Meeting the U.S. federal regulations for electrical safety, the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation will replace 45′ (6 each) and 35′ (3 each) of power poles in the heart of As Matuis.

Linemen from the community utility will also relocate three phase and single phase primary and secondary power lines. The utility is upgrading older electrical lines to prevent from deterioration, cracking and termite infestation. Once the new power poles are in place, the linemen will transfer the high voltage wires.

Because crews cannot touch the high voltage wires when they are energized, the electricity will be turned off during the project most of Saturday. The utility will however isolate the construction within the whole areas in As Matuis. Therefore, the power will go off at 8:30 Saturday morning and be turned back on just as soon as crews are out of danger, no later than 5:30 p.m.

The As Matuis project is a big one. The utility will turn off the power for the entire As Matuis homestead. This work is part of the utility’s ongoing capital improvement project programs. The electrical work meets all U.S. federal safety standards and better protects our consumers.
