CUC employees’ low morale noted
The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. detected low morale in the Wastewater Division and assigned a division inspector to conduct a series of interviews with employees about operations and any other topics that the employees wanted to discuss.
Since these interviews, several operations and procedural improvements are being made and morale has already improved, according to a CUC statement.
The Inspector received his assignment exactly nine working days ago. The final employee interview was completed at approximately 5:00 p.m. on Dec. 4. No reports have been written, only interviews have occurred.
As a result of these interviews, the corporation now conducts an investigation called by the chair of the board, Jesus T. Guerrero. CUC is requesting assistance from the Office of Public Auditor. Various government officials have been notified or are in the process of being notified now.
The investigation centers around alleged violations of the Ethics Act, theft of government property and CUC personnel violations. These are concerns that relate to alleged improper actions with vendors.
The corporation is proud of the employees who brought forth their concerns and respects the privacy of these individuals, including those who assisted in the interviews and morale improvements.
CUC confirms that one employee has been hospitalized, while another took personal holiday leave before/during and currently — though these circumstances are routine, personal and are not in conjunction with any internal actions.
All CUC employees are subject to routine drug policy testing and although privacy is protected, officials can confirm that this is not an area of discussion for these purposes.
