Autofest 2000 on Dec. 16
Saipan’s leading business groups have combined resources to launch on Dec. 16 a spectacular car show dubbed as the Autofest 2000, a display and competition extravaganza designed by organizers to showcase vehicles.
Autofest committee member Ray Yumul said various sponsors and local automobile dealers have pitched in efforts to put up what could become an annual event.
“The purpose of the Autofest is we want to promote maximum exposure to the vendors as well as the participants,” said Mr. Yumul.
He added that what sets Autofest 2000 apart from any other car show rests on its one distinct purpose, which is to generate participation from car enthusiasts and sponsors not in the interest of making profit but to institute a good wholesome community entertainment and offer maximum rewards to both sponsors and car show contenders.
Mr. Yumul disclosed the prizes in store for contest winners range from Shell gas certificates, car equipment, automobile batteries, and others.
No less than experts in the automotive industry will be tapped to judge the lowerider cars/trucks, classic cars/trucks, sports compact cars/trucks, euro cars/trucks, hydraulics competition, monster trucks, lowride tricycles, lowrider bicycles, sound-off competition, custom bikes, and 4X4 trucks contest categories.
The Autofest is seen to make more competitive Northern Marianas’ edge in car showmanship, as opposed to only one major car display per year.
“Guam has 6 to 8 shows a year sponsored by different organizations. By having two here in the CNMI won’t hurt the industry at all. In fact, it will give it a boost.
The car display will occupy the American Memorial Park grounds to feature booths by the event’s sponsors and the participants.
Sponsors for the event include the Jollibee Restaurant, YCO True Value Hardware Store, Shell Marianas, Coca-Cola, Mid-Pac Micronesia, Car Tune at Taro Sue, Triple J Express Tire and Lube, The Field, IT&E, Microl Corp., Verizon, and Kautz Glass and Co. (MM)
