Resident wants Gualo Rai road hazard addressed

A Gualo Rai resident has threatened to file a lawsuit against a Chalan Lau Lau-based private company for allegedly failing to install final safety touches to a sewer line project in one of the village's secondary roads.

A Gualo Rai resident has threatened to file a lawsuit against a Chalan Lau Lau-based private company for allegedly failing to install final safety touches to a sewer line project in one of the village’s secondary roads.

According to Al Taitano, while he and his family were driving by on the way home Thursday night, their 1992 Toyota pick-up slid into a deep hole that seriously caused damage to their vehicle.

Mr. Taitano added that his automobile, with a total of four passengers on board, almost rammed into a telephone pole as a result.

“We could not avoid the hole because the road is so narrow and there’s another van parked on the side, and there was another car passing opposite us. I am very displeased about this. And I could sue them if this is not rectified,” said Mr. Taitano.

The Taitano family is contemplating legal action against Key Point Saipan Limited, the contractor hired by the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation for the Gualo Rai sewer line project, according to Mr. Taitano.

Mr. Taitano asserted that the road hazard is a very pressing safety concern which should be addressed immediately to avoid any fatalities.

The Gualo Rai resident added that community leaders should not wait until someone gets hurt to act on this concern.

“It’s a matter of public safety. If this is CUC’s responsibility, then they should fix this,” he said.

Mr. Taitano also tapped police assistance and filed a formal complaint on what could have been a tragic accident his family were almost victims to last week.
