The Division of Veterans Affairs unveiled yesterday its newly-renovated office building on Capitol Hill during an open house held at the government-owned housing lot.

From As Lito, the agency has relocated to Capitol Hill since Dec. 11 to more spacious office space accessible to war veterans and the elderly, according to Veterans Affairs Director Jess Muna.

The building features a director’s office, a conference room, an assistant administrator’s room, and an extra chamber for the use of the U.S. Armed Forces Association.

The building is also equipped with an accessible toilet for persons with disabilities and an extension for large-crowd meetings.

Mr. Muna revealed renovation costs totaled $88,000 for the six-month-long reconstruction of the building, which is part of the Veterans Affair’s Office Capital Improvement Projects.

“This is a much better location. We are now isolated from traffic so the venue is much more accessible and friendly for our veterans when they visit us to seek for assistance,” said Mr. Muna.

The agency held offices in As Lito for five years before it made its final move to its new location. At the old location, the office paid a $1,000 monthly rent.

Prior to As Lito, the Veterans Affairs was situated at Lower Base and later moved to Garapan. (MM)
