Sasaki is RGA club champion
It all started out on January 2000 when 38 golfers were vying to qualify for the monthly ace awards which qualifies them for the Club championship tournament.
Last year’s champion Jesse Stole was off-island and was not able to defend his title. With RGA club champion up for grabs, Oliver Sasaki turn in a lifetime round of golf by driving his way to a 8 over par 80. A double digit handicap of 13 landed him a strong net score of 67 to establish the score to beat.
Hot on his tail was two-time defending champion Jess Wabol and newcomer Kim Seung who both shoot 1 under par 71 gross and 2 over par 74 which landed them 69 net 2 strokes behind Sasaki.
When the dust cleared Sasaki was honored as the 2001 RGA Club champion. Sasaki received a one year free membership, $200.00, will represent RGA in the 2001 Tournament of Champion and recipient of the RGA Cup.
Other winners include Joe Limes, who placed fourth, and Jess B. Castro. Both win net scores of 70.
A total of 20 golfers showed up for the yearend tournament. In its second year, the Sid K. Peter Special Award went to Joe. T. Wabol, one of the senior members of the group. The other award is the average low net champion. John Guerrero edged out Joe Lizama’s 70.6.
