DLNR backs creation of right-of-ways
The Department of Lands and Natural Resources has signified support for a legislative measure that requires right-of-ways to be created on any parcel of land to be subdivided or proposed for residential or commercial developments.
Commending the intent of the bill, DLNR officials, however, recommended that a minimum of 14 feet for residential to 20 feet for commercial subdivision be changed to 18 feet and 24 feet, respectively.
The Office of Public Lands, formerly an agency under the lands and natural resources, also expressed its support for the initiative, citing that OPL has encountered numerous problems that has stemmed from instances when properties were parceled out without identifying the proper right-of-ways.
“The bill promises to address these concerns so we support its proposed intention,” said OPL Director Bertha Deleon Guerrero.
But Ms. Deleon Guerrero also noted that according to the Department of Public Works, the Federal Highway assistance for road development is available only for roads with minimum width of 30 feet and that proposed legislation (Section 5) provides for minimum the width below the 30-foot requirement for the Federal Highway assistance.
