Celebrating the historic contributions of Catholic schools in the education system, Mount Carmel School maps out a week-long celebration to commemorate its true entrance to the new millennium.

Beginning Jan. 28, several events involving the students, parents and the school administration are scheduled to be held, according to a press statement released by the Mt. Carmel School.

The Catholic Schools Week will hold its annual Family Night celebration which is dedicated to getting as much of the MCS community together.

Last year, more than 1,000 people filled the tent-covered court-yard and enjoyed a feast accompanied by entertainment presented by students, teachers and community groups.

Apart from the Family Night, MCS officials said there will be several theme nights to be conducted including Catholic Schools in the Parish, where students will be participating in church services.

Monday will be dedicated to Catholic schools in the community, where the school will express appreciation for the community around the school.

MCS’ goal is to get all MCS students off campus to help the community in various aspects including beach clean-ups to hospital visitation.

Tuesday is Faculty Appreciation Day, where MCS teachers, staff and administration will enjoy a lovely meal together while Wednesday will be Student Appreciation Day where presentation of awards to winners of the essay writing contest.

On February 2, MCS will feature “Catholic Schools and our Families,” where the aforementioned Family Night takes place, marking the end of the week-long celebration.

It’s unclear how long Catholic Schools Week has been an event directly involving MCS, but the Catholic Church has always held that Catholic education has existed for 2,000 years, and any sanctioned celebration of Catholic education is an historic one.
