The Coastal Resources Management Office has started distributing two sets of educational CDs which will take the secondary school students to the fascinating world of marine life.

Produced by the University of Guam Marine Laboratory, CRM contributed $10,000 for the production of the educational CDs. Two agencies — NOAA and the Office of Insular Affairs also provided funds to produce the CDs.

One of the CDs entitled Cities Under the Sea: Coral Reefs CD-ROM was co-produced by Jean-Michel Cousteau Productions. Mr. Cousteau, a world-renowned leader in the exploration of ecosystems has created more than 50 underwater and nature adventure film.

Said Mr. Cousteau: “The study of coral reefs helps us understand how to preserve our own world for future generations. Cities Under the Sea captures the wonder and spectacle of a reef, yet it also provides clues to how we can live better with our environment.”

Peter Barlas, acting CRM Executive Director, said the educational set will be distributed among the various high schools in the CNMI including the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library as part of the agency’s educational outreach program.

He said they are working with CNMI schools to incorporate the educational material in their science curricula.
