Church backs overseas help to fight crime
PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (PINA Nius) — The Catholic Church has welcomed efforts by Papua New Guinea police to prosecute so-called “white-collar crime suspects.”
Bishop Stephen Reichert, President of the Catholic Bishops Conference, said the move comes in response to a media statement by Deputy Police Commissioner Sam Inguba, advising that investigations are continuing.
The church also suggested that if more resources are needed the police should obtain overseas help so that action can be taken to show society that people’s interests are paramount.
Bishop Reichert said the revelations from the National Provident Fund inquiry have shown that the trust placed in government has been betrayed.
