More cases of child abuse surface

A Tinian resident has been summoned to appear before the Superior Court to answer charges of sexual abuse of a child on three separate occasions since Aug. 28, 1999.

The defendant Alvin Lee John was sued by the Commonwealth government for allegedly having sexual contact with a girl under 18 years old.

According to the case filed by the Attorney General’s Office, Mr. John repeatedly had sex with the minor three separate times during the dates Aug. 28, 1999, Sept. 1, 1999, and Dec. 5, 2000.

The AG through counsel Kevin A. Lynch has petitioned the court to prosecute the suspect for three counts of sexual abuse of a child.

Mr. John has been ordered to appear in court on Feb. 9 at 9:00am.

Meanwhile, police are investigating a 33-year-old Saipan woman who is suspected of committing acts of violence against a minor under her custody using two separate tools last Nov. 23, 2000.

Virginia Santos Reyes has been summoned to court for five counts of child abuse, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.

According to a complaint filed before the Superior Court, Ms. Santos unlawfully threatened, attempted, and offered to cause bodily injury to a girl under the age of 18 by means of a rice cooker cord and a sandal.

The Atty. General’s Office further stated in a complaint that defendant purposefully and knowingly struck the victim, in the process disturbing and threatening her mental and physical well-being.

Ms. Reyes has been summoned to appear in court on Feb. 26 at 9:00am. (MM)
