Maraya passes US CPA board
Out of 459 hopefuls, Luen Thai accountant Kareen A. Maraya made it to the list of 79 successful examinees who sat for the Uniform American Institute of Certified Public Accountants examination conducted by the Guam Board of Accountancy last November 2000.
Acing the four-part evaluation on Auditing, Financial Accounting and Reporting, Taxation, Managerial, Governmental and Not-For-Profit Organization, and Business Law and Professional Responsibilities, the new board passer is now on her way to gaining full certification to practice as a licensed public accountant in the United States.
Ms. Maraya garnered an 84.5 average in the US licensure exam.
The 24-year-old’s latest achievement reaffirms her existing Philippines-obtained accountancy permit which she earned in flying colors when she landed 21st place out of thousands who took the CPA board in 1998.
Born and raised in the Philippines, she graduated from the country’s premier educational institution, the University of the Philippines, Diliman with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and Accounting.
Back in undergraduate school, she was a consistent college and university scholar, maintaining a 1.75 and higher grade point average per semester.
The young professional is the daughter of Philippine Labor Representative to the CNMI Atty. Araceli A. Maraya and Philippines-based public defender Atty. Toots Maraya Jr. She is the middle child of a brood of three.
