SUVA, Fiji Islands (PINA Nius) — Fiji police threats to arrest people taking part in a television current affairs program have been criticized by Pacific Islands News Association (PINA) President William Parkinson.
He called the police action “overreaction, unfortunate and deplorable” and a major threat to freedom of expression in Fiji.
An estimated 50 police, with police trucks, were at the Tradewinds Convention Centre in suburban Suva threatening to arrest anyone who took part in the filming of a show for the Fiji Television current affairs program Close Up.
