Open water swim meet on Saturday

Organizers are anticipating a good number of participants to the 23rd Annual HSBC Saipan Ocean Swim which will take place on March 24 at 8:00am. All courses will be swum around the World War II Tank siting inside the lagoon fronting the Saipan Diamond hotel.

The open ocean swim will begin with the 10 years and under age group category. The 8 years and under will swim next, followed by the 12 and under, then the 14 and under and the seniors. The last group will be the Masters at approximately 10:30am or 11:00am.

This ocean swim event is open to anyone but they must register in advance. Persons who would like to volunteer help will be welcome and are asked to contact Mike Villagomez or Bill Sakovich.

Pre-registration is required and the deadline is March 23 or before 8:00am of March 24. No entries will be accepted after this 8:00am deadline. The Entry Fee is $7, Participants are encouraged to attend the awards party. The deadline for purchasing banquet tickets will also be 8:00am on Saturday morning.

The courses vary for each age group.

8 yrs. and under — 0.6 km

10 yrs. and under — 1.0 km

12 yrs. and under — 1.3 km

14 and under, Seniors — 2.5 km

Masters — 1.3 or 2.5 km.

The Masters have a choice of a 1.3 or 1.5 course. However, the awards will be broken down by ages for the 1.3 course, while the 2.5 will be open with awards first through eight overall, men and women.

Wetsuits are not allowed, nor are swimmers aids such as paddles or fins. Swimmers from Guam and Japan are also expected to participate in this annual event.
