Chinese songbirds in karaoke contest
The first CNMI Chinese Community Karaoke Competition will be held this month, offering big cash prize for top amateur talent on island.
The event is being organized by Saipan Chinese News, Power Young Publishing.
“We want to develop positive activities for Chinese guest workers to participate in when they’re off the clock,” said Saipan Chinese News publisher Betty Bai. “Many have great talent, and we’re encouraging them to share it and be recognized.”
The competition will be held March 18 at the American Memorial Park at 6:30pm. Tickets are $5.
“We want to enhance relationship between guest workers and the local community,” Ms. Bai said, “so we hope anyone who’s interested will join us.”
Qualifying rounds will be held on March 11 at the office of the Saipan Chinese Association in China Town. The top 20 contestants will advance to the final competition on March 18.
Top place will get $1,000 in cash, while second and third place winners will receive $800 and $500 respectively. The audience’s favorite will also take home $300.
Major sponsors of the event include Verizon Pacifica, Saipan Garment Manufacturers Association, Pacific Trading Miller Lite, and the Chinese Association of Saipan. For more information, contact Ms. Bai at Saipan Chinese News, 322-6817, or Chinese Association of Saipan 233-3988.
